Job Description:
The University of Northern Iowa’s Advancement Division seeks a Digital Communications Specialist to join the Division’s communications team and serve the digital and social media communication needs of the UNI Foundation and UNI Alumni Association.
Primary Function: Collaborates with Advancement division staff to provide social media strategy, development and execution for UNI Foundation and UNI Alumni Association social media channels; creates and edits engaging content in conjunction with various Advancement division teams to fit each platform and promote the division’s initiatives and goals; creates electronic communications such as e-newsletters, email invitations, announcements and fundraising appeals; assists with graphic design, photography, and video production needs for communications; maintains UNI Foundation and UNI Alumni Association department websites to share engaging and effective stories of the alumni, donors, students, faculty, staff and programs of UNI; and works and collaborates with the Advancement Communications team, the Advancement division, and other university entities in a cross-functional capacity to foster effective, consistent and timely communications.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, interactive digital studies or related field; at least one year of experience in social media, digital media, marketing or related fields; excellent writing, communication and proofreading skills; versatility in writing styles including social media, web content and marketing copy; experience creating graphics using Adobe Creative Cloud and other tools; strong attention to detail; ability to manage multiple responsibilities; and ability to effectively work in a team environment required. Student experience will be considered. Spring 2025 graduates will be considered. Degree must be conferred prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications: Website development; mass email development and creation; familiarity with social media management tools and analytics reporting; photography and video experience preferred.
