The Development Services Department (DSD) assists homeowners, business owners, and contractors when they build, demolish, remodel or perform any type of construction to ensure compliance with applicable city and building codes.

DSD is seeking a Program Development Coordinator – Youth Forest Council. The City of Austin’s Youth Forest Council is an immersive, yearlong paid internship connecting young people (ages 16-20) in Austin to careers in natural resources and public service. Youth Forest Council members work with Urban Forest Program professionals to support community activities and develop their own connections to Austin’s natural spaces. https://www.austintexas.gov/page/youth-forest-council

Travel:
If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Critical Employee:
Critical employees are considered necessary and vital and support activities that impact City or department operations. This work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees who are able to work at an alternative work location are required to do so. Schedules may be modified, and employees may be reassigned to another area during extraordinary situations or emergency conditions to provide essential services.

Pay Range
$28.29 – $34.80 per hour.

Hours
Monday-Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Hours for this position may vary based on business needs. This may include evening hours to accommodate virtual meetings/one-on-ones with interns and Saturday work as required. Candidates must have flexible schedules.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
Experience developing, facilitating, and evaluating innovative and equitable teen programming.
Experience supervising teams that include young adults (in a professional or volunteer capacity), including managing schedules, building team camaraderie, and creating innovative ways to work together.
Experience fostering inclusive teams with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds (particularly young adults).
Experience marketing programs to diverse audiences, including creating equity-focused marketing plans, designing and distributing outreach materials, and hosting public presentations.
Experience leading or participating in programming related to the outdoors, urban forestry, nature, environment, and/or sustainability (professionally, academically, or as a volunteer).
Ability to fluently communicate in English and Spanish.
Ability to travel to more than one work location.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Oversees the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and sponsored special events.
Leads initiatives related to community needs and outreach.
Ensures the programs and services offered contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities and approved budget.
Works with internal and external individuals to identify/plan program themes.
Monitors the delivery of the programs and events to maintain or improve quality.
Provides regular program reports.
Works with director on program-related sponsorships, grants, and contributions.
Keeps all parties apprised of ongoing program-related budget issues.
