Canvasser Jobs in Detroit, MI at Mothering Justice
Mothering Justice is seeking passionate and committed Canvassers to join our team. This role is crucial in directly engaging with community members, raising awareness about our mission, and mobilizing support for policies that uplift mamas and caregivers. Canvassers will be responsible for face-to-face outreach, canvassing neighborhoods, attending events, and conducting direct voter and community engagement. This is an in-person role that requires reliable transportation to various work sites and events.
The ideal candidate will be an energetic and persuasive communicator with experience in grassroots organizing, canvassing, and field outreach. They should be comfortable initiating conversations with new people, handling rejection, and motivating community members to take action. A deep commitment to social justice and racial equity is essential, as well as the ability to represent Mothering Justice with professionalism and enthusiasm in diverse communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct inperson canvassing, including doortodoor outreach, phone banking, and tabling at events.
Engage in meaningful conversations with community members, educating them about key issues and encouraging civic participation.
Track and report canvassing data, including the number of interactions, commitments secured, and community feedback.
Work collaboratively with the organizing team to execute outreach strategies and meet engagement goals.
Represent Mothering Justice at community events, rallies, and advocacy initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience in canvassing, field organizing, or direct outreach preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage people from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to work independently and stay motivated in a fastpaced, on the groundbased role.
Commitment to social justice, racial equity, and Mothering Justice’s mission.
Reliable transportation to travel to and from assigned work locations.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Through advocacy, leadership development, voter empowerment, and promoting family-friendly advocacy, Mothering Justice raises the voices of mothers and helps them become policy shapers. The overall goal of the organization is to have a well-organized group of mothers that can engage fellow parents, allies and lawmakers around a variety of issues that affect working families that we call the Mamas’ Agenda.
