The Promotional Writer is part of the Marketing Creative Team and responsible for executing various copy projects, including, but not limited to, emails, digital and print ads, mailers, booklets, posters, brochures, and other online and offline collateral in compliance with the university’s brand standards. The Promotional Writer works to creatively and strategically convey the message of the university and the department with great attention to detail. Contributing to the development of marketing initiatives and creative strategies is required, as well as interfacing with clients on ideas and revisions. The Promotional Writer manages marketing content across platforms from concept through final execution and participates in a peer review editing process.
While the Marketing Department home office is in Lynchburg, Va., this position is a remote, work-from-home position. There are a few occasions where the Promotional Writer will be required to be in the office/Lynchburg area, which will be discussed after the job offer.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Researches, writes, and edits a variety of marketing materials, including, but not limited to, brochures, newsletters, direct mail, advertising, social media, and email campaigns.

2. Develops creative ideas and concepts using a proactive and strategic approach, often in partnership with the team of Graphic Designers and Project Coordinators.

3. Takes initiative in identifying tone and voice of both the university and the client in order to write clear, persuasive, original copy.

4. Displays strong attention to detail and proofreads copy to check spelling, grammar, and compliance with AP format and the Liberty University verbal brand and style guide.

5. Shows flexibility in amending, revising, or redeveloping campaigns in response to feedback from the marketing manager, quality control team, marketing leadership, and/or departmental clients.

6. Interacts with team and/or clients to identify solutions to challenges and regarding feedback on communication projects.

7. Creates HTML with the assistance of the Dreamweaver software program to execute effective communication campaigns.

8. Manages working on several projects at once, sometimes under pressure and often within tight deadlines.

9. Engages in continued learning through competitor research and professional development to strengthen writing skills and gain familiarity with marketing trends in higher education.

10. Utilizes external tools, such as the URL Checker, to ensure the proper functionality of links.

11. Shares ideas and suggestions with other writers in the office.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

Minimum Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, or related field.

2. Approximately zero – two years of related experience required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

4. Must be able to understand and follow directions and work under limited supervision.

5. Must be able to work well with clients and co-workers and present a positive attitude while being courteous, detail-oriented, self-motivated, diligent, trustworthy, and possessing strong organizational skills.

6. Possess a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

7. Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals. Ambition to grow and improve. Ability to think creatively and critically and problem solve efficiently. Must possess ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in English, Communication, or related field from a four-year college or university.

2. Familiarity with Adobe Dreamweaver.
