The Communications Coordinator is an entry-level role designed for a strong communicator who is eager to gain hands-on experience in media relations and digital marketing.
This position will report to the Digital Fundraising and Marketing Manager but will support the entire Marketing and Communications team by helping to share impactful animal stories, coordinate media opportunities, and assist with digital content.
Duties and Responsibilities
Media & Storytelling
Serve as the main point of contact for Pet of the Week partnerships with media outlets.
Draft and edit animal bios for adoptable pets, collaborating with a team of volunteer writers.
Track and follow compelling animal stories to provide content for the digital marketing team.
Assist with updating intake photos and website images for animals adoption profiles.
Digital Marketing & Fundraising Support
Assist with email marketing list management, ensuring clean and accurate data for campaigns.
Support campaign structures within Salesforce and other marketing or fundraising platforms.
Pull and analyze data from the website and social media, providing insights to optimize digital content.
Create and manage fundraising pages, ensuring content is compelling and up-to-date.
Write and edit articles for the Atlanta Humane Society blog, sharing impactful animal stories, pet care resources, and updates on the organizations work.
Provide temporary support for social media content creation and scheduling as needed.
AV & Speaking Engagements
Provide AV support for internal and external events as needed.
Draft talking points for staff members speaking engagements and media interviews.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelors degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
1-3 years of experience in communications, media relations, digital marketing, or content creation (nonprofit experience a plus).
Strong writing and editing skills with experience in storytelling and public messaging.
Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with platforms like Salesforce, Classy, and/or Sprout Social a plus.
Passion for animal welfare and Atlanta Humane Societys mission.
