The Writer & Content Strategist occupies a manager-level role that has responsibility to work cross-functionally within CTA and with external partners to conceptualize, pitch, write, curate and measure success for compelling original technology-focused content for CTA.tech, CES.tech and the associated email and social media audiences, throughout the year and on-site at CES.
Additionally, this role identifies and sources new content from staff and through partnerships with members, thought leaders, CES exhibitors, and others in the technology industry, and identifies creative re-use opportunities for the existing catalog of written, audio (podcast) and video content.
This individual will be a key stakeholder in the organization’s content planning process to ensure alignment of messaging and activities across the organization throughout the year. He or she will also maintain an editorial calendar that reflects both industry and global events, and complements CTA’s email and social media calendars.
Critical Duties and Responsibilities:
Original Content Development
Research and write compelling original articles, guides, round-ups and other long- and short-form content that supports key CTA and CES audience needs throughout the year.
Partner closely with key stakeholders in sales, research, membership, government affairs, etc., to identify opportunities to elevate stories about CES exhibitors, CTA members, important initiatives and emerging trends.
Synthesize original CTA-produced content, including research, podcasts and conference programming, to create new web-based articles or other marketing or demand-generation materials for the CTA and CES audiences.
Interview CTA member companies and CES partners to create original web-based articles, such as profiles, insights, Q&As, trends and case studies, that support organizational goals.
Develop complementary materials (email blurbs, social bites, website promotion copy, video and podcast descriptions, etc.) to extend the use of CTA’s content catalog.
Develop a variety of content (interviews, hot products round-ups, trend spotting, session recaps and more) for daily publication on-site at CES and conduct exhibitor research to drive post-show calendar.
Facilitate the review and approval of content by member companies, partners or internal stakeholders prior to publication.
Ensure consistent voice and brand identity in CES and CTA original content, as well as quality and accuracy of final work product.
Write or review other content, such as video scripts, email, web copy, demand-generation content, interview questions, or print marketing collateral, as needed.
Content Strategy
Evaluate effectiveness of original content through analysis of pageview growth, organic search, topics and more, and take conclusions into account to improve results.
Stay current with digital storytelling and content marketing trends and best practices, as well as changes in the technology landscape, to rapidly incorporate new and emerging opportunities into the editorial calendar.
Collaborate with in-house and external partner teams for analytics and SEO
Identifies opportunities to clip / reuse CES video content throughout the year
Conduct regular content audits to assess the performance of the catalog and refresh, repost, repurpose or retire content as needed.
In collaboration with the Email Marketing Manager and Manager, Digital Content, ensure that key CES and CTA messages are aligned across all digital touchpoints.
Collaborate closely with Email Marketing Manager and Manager, Digital Content, CTA’s social media agency, Events and Communications teams, to achieve organizational goals and ensure consistent, coordinated coverage of key milestone events for the industry and the organization.
Perform other duties as required by business needs.
Work Experience:
5-7 years previous work experience
Prior experience with large-scale in-person events, tradeshows, and / or conferences is preferred
Education/Training:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing. or English, or commensurate experience
Experience working in a fast-paced environment and with marketing, advertising or communications teams preferred
Skills/Capabilities/Technical:
Interest in the consumer technology industry, including emerging trends
Solid grounding in web analytics, and best practices for SEO and accessibility
Strong communicator (oral & written)
Familiarity with AP style
Past experience implementing video and audio content as part of an overall content strategy
Detail-oriented with ability to prioritize tasks
Strong time and project management skills, including ability to work with deadline pressure
Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously and adapt quickly to changing needs
Flexibility and collaborative spirit
Additional Information:
Prior experience crafting both long- and short-form content written for digital audiences across a variety of channels, including web, email, video, podcasts and social media preferred
Demonstrated ability to adapt existing content for additional channels, to measure its success and to adapt strategy and tactics based on results
Prior experience covering technology topics, especially for a B2B audience, is desirable
Must have desire to work collaboratively in a creative environment, across functional areas, and with stakeholders at all levels
Travel to CES in Las Vegas, NV, is required
