The Virginia League of Conservation Voters (VALCV) is a powerful and effective 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for strong environmental policies, educating voters, endorsing pro-conservation candidates, and holding elected officials accountable on issues affecting our air, land, water, and public health. Our work extends across the VALCV family of organizations, which includes the VALCV Education Fund (501(c)(3) and VALCV PAC, our political arm supporting the election of environmental champions.

About the Role:

The Development Manager reports to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer and collaborates closely with the Senior Development Manager and Executive Director. This position plays a key role in advancing Virginia LCV’s mission by engaging donors, managing CRM systems, supporting grant efforts, and coordinating donor events. The Development Manager will build relationships with donors and foundations while executing data-driven fundraising strategies that support environmental policies and initiatives. Additionally, the role involves implementing fundraising campaigns, overseeing donor events, and continuously refining strategies based on key metric analysis to enhance impact.

The ideal candidate will have strong research and analytical skills, excellent communication for donor interactions, and proficiency in CRM systems (such as EveryAction). Event planning experience is essential, and the ability to manage multiple tasks, collaborate with teams, and track fundraising metrics is required. Experience in grant writing, donor cultivation, and confidentiality is a must.

Responsibilities:

Conduct donor research, maintain donor records, and track engagement outcomes.
Identify potential grants and funding opportunities.
Schedule and track senior leadership donor calls, preparing briefing materials, follow-up emails, and thank-you notes.
Support fundraising efforts, donor meetings, and stewardship activities.
Ensure timely and accurate data entry in the CRM, tracking donor communications and contributions.
Maintain donor contact records and provide insights for fundraising strategies.
Coordinate donor email campaigns and plan small-scale donor events.
Support larger fundraising events and manage acknowledgment messages.
Monitor grant deadlines and reporting requirements.
Draft grant proposals and reports with program staff, and track development metrics and fundraising progress.
Collaborate with the Senior Development Manager, Executive Director, and program teams on outreach and funding opportunities.
Participate in board meetings and national fundraising cohorts.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least 2 years of proven experience in fundraising and development within a non-profit organization.
Strong proficiency in CRM systems, donor databases, and Microsoft Excel/Google Sheet.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience in foundation grant management, including proposal writing, tracking deadlines, and maintaining funder relationships.
Familiarity with conservation issues and advocacy efforts.
