Position Highlights
The Wyant College of Optical Sciences seeks a Media Content Manager with strong technical knowledge responsible for College website administration, creation and implementation of Web media, critical to both the internal operations and external visibility of the college. The candidate will be responsible for initiatives to generate, create and refresh content, requiring creative writing and graphics skills, and technical and creative skills in website design, photography and video technology, and knowledge of social media.
Incumbent will be expected to develop and maintain interactive, user-friendly and visually appealing webpages that convey and support the academic, research, and outreach mission of the Wyant College of Optical Sciences. Strong communications skills are required to interface directly with our faculty, our students, and our Academic Programs office to generate a rich and highly functional interface for our students and faculty, new student recruitment, and our college’s university, community, and industry external partners.
As Manager and Editor-in-Chief of the College newsletter (bi-weekly production), duties include generating news articles and distributing the newsletter, writing press releases, managing the College’s social media channels, and overseeing print production of marketing materials.

Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and execute engaging multimedia content strategies for web, print, and digital platforms, ensuring alignment with institutional branding and marketing goals.
Photographer for events, portraits, and technical research Web and print media content; creative photography, editing, and archiving skills.
Compose engaging articles with comprehensive and cohesive visual and editorial content for college websites, newsletter, print and social media.
Write, edit, and publish bi-weekly college newsletters and manage electronic distribution lists.
Write news articles, write and distribute press releases, managing the College’s social media channels, edit and oversee print production of marketing materials.
Develop public relations materials such as posters, brochures, pamphlets, certificates, banners, slideshows, etc.
Participate in college special events and outreach to gather content for media and public relations. (Requires flexible work schedule: some after hours and weekends.
Manage and maintain the College’s digital presence by ensuring the website, web applications, and branding elements remain visually appealing, functional, and user-friendly. Support faculty and staff in leveraging web-based technologies to enhance communication and engagement.
Responsible for College website administration, develop and maintain interactive, user-friendly, and visually appealing webpages.
Launch new web-based applications requested by OSC faculty and staff; maintain and troubleshoot existing Web applications and content.
Develop and implement updates to website page design; research and evaluate software, hardware, and new technologies.
Ensure college and university branding specifications are maintained across web and marketing content.
Interface with faculty core research groups to guide generation and formatting of research activity for annual web-based status reports and subsequent website publication.
Generate general marketing materials. (flyers, email templates, digital banners, etc.)
Provide logistical and technical support for college events, internal communications, and personnel data management to ensure seamless operations and engagement among students, faculty, and affiliates.
Announce and coordinate weekly colloquium streaming via zoom.
Management of college employment portal (students and Industrial Affiliate members)
Maintain OSC personnel and student photo archives for employee/student board, website, and directory.
Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge of web applications and content management systems (e.g. Drupal, WordPress, HTML, CSS, PHP).
Demonstrated skill in photography and video technologies.
Knowledge of graphic design, ability to create and/or manipulate graphics, including proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver Illustrator, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Knowledge of principles, practices, ethics, and laws of Web publishing and copyrights.
Knowledge of search engine optimization techniques.
Knowledge of programming languages (SQL, Java Script, XHTML, JavaScript accessing MySQL).
Knowledge of technical structure of websites including scripting, database design, and user interface design, including Drupal and WordPress module and theme development and linkage to other social media.
Excellent writing, editing, and organizational/time management skills with a sound understanding of AP style, writing for the Web and engaging online audiences through social media.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment with changing priorities.
Ability to exercise independent initiative and judgment, judge visual and editorial quality and appropriateness for website publication.
Demonstrated video recording technology skills for streaming video used in website and distance learning programs.
Demonstrated proficiency in working with organizations to create print and Web media content, including use of interactive forms and databases, integration of database to Web.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Media, Web design, Management Information Systems, communications, marketing, business)
At least 5 years of relevant experience (e.g. managing web content, developing a content strategy, writing, editing, marketing, public relations)
Experience including responsibility and accountability for website development, editorial oversight of content, and publication (internship, part-time and freelance work acceptable).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Media, Web Design, Management Information Systems, Communications, Marketing, Business. or relevant field.
Demonstrated experience conducting content audits and evaluating content.
Education or work experience in STEM fields.
Demonstrated experience developing content for specific target audiences.
