Position Summary
The Communications and Voter Outreach Coordinator is a non-exempt position responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing voter education programs, voter registration drives, community presentations and other opportunities to engage Sarasota County citizens in the election process. This position assists with the overall communications and outreach efforts of the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections (SOE) utilizing a wide variety of print and digital media platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the main point of contact for the office’s participation in community events, community outreach, education programs and projects as directed by the Director, Communications & Voter Outreach
Research, develop and implement innovative community outreach and voter registration/voter education opportunities, programs and events that educate citizens on the importance of registering and voting
Educate the community on election administration and the work of the SOE
May represent the office and act on behalf of the Supervisor before businesses, schools, civic groups and community organizations, at the direction of the Supervisor, and develop presentations and talking points for the SOE and staff
Assist Communications team updating web content and social media to maintain accurate and relevant information
Assist Communications team managing meetings and other election-related tasks as needed
May answer inquiries from the public, furnishing information pertinent to voter registration, elections and voting
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Political Science or a related field is required
Minimum of 3 years experience in communications with responsibility for community outreach, marketing and communications, utilizing new and traditional media and web content
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to develop and deliver interesting and informative presentations Knowledge of public relations and media practices
Exceptional organizational and follow-up skills with attention to detail and accuracy
Prior work experience in a position with rapidly changing priorities and deadlines
Ability to attend meetings or events or give presentations, including evenings and weekends
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, Adobe desktop publishing software and ability to learn
new software programs
Coordinate various activities and set priorities, especially during elections
Develop, write, compile, analyze, compose and edit correspondence and reports, and design forms and materials
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $49,004.00 – $75,961.00 per year
