Job Summary/Basic Function:

Working with academic units across the entire university, the communications specialist will identify, evaluate and help drive enterprise-level content that is brand-aligned, strategic and in step with OCM communications plan goals. This position will coordinate a team of communicators from colleges and units across campus, design and facilitate weekly meetings, and in collaboration with these communicators, develop and manage a unified content calendar. This position will advise on content choices and storytelling best practices across all academic units. The communications specialist will represent academics at OCM meetings, manage the academics segment of the OCM university-wide communications plan, and help determine which content from academic units is reflected across brand-level channels.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees. Typically hold a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Essential Functions:

60% of Time the Communications Specialist must:

Strong writing and proofreading skills.
Strong organizational, project management, leadership and time management skills.
Ability to build and maintain cross-organizational relationships.
Ability to bring disparate voices together around a common goal and narrative.
Experience selecting, researching and writing enterprise-level, brand-aligned stories.
Experience working within teams of creative professionals.
An ability to meet long-term project deadlines while adapting to immediate demands.
Experience establishing long-range objectives, and specifying strategies and actions to achieve results.
High level of collaboration, communication and teamwork.

35% of Time the Communications Specialist must:

Help tell the Boise State story across OCM channels, including Boise State Magazine, social media, website, Boise State News and more.
Help OCM develop a communications and marketing annual plan that aligns with the university vision and brand, and draws upon academic success across campus.
Contribute to creative briefs, communications plans and other guiding documents that set goals and objectives for OCM-led campaigns.
Assist with hires of academic unit-based communications specialists, as needed.

5% of Time

Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and two years of professional experience, or equivalent relevant experience.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $48,609.00 to $54,000.00 annually and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
12 paid holidays AND the University is closed between Christmas and New Year’s (requires use of 3 vacation days)
Between 12-24 annual paid vacation days for full-time Professional and Classified staff depending on position type and years of service
