Discover Downstate Illinois is looking for a Sales and Marketing Specialist to assist the Sales/Marketing Director with promoting events by traditional/digital means of advertising, traveling our region to build relationships within our communities and to drive tourism to our 21+ county region.

Job Title: Sales and Marketing Specialist

Job Classification: Full-time, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM with a 1-hour lunch, Monday-Friday, In-person
Job Location: 4387 N. Illinois St. Suite #200, Swansea, IL.

Reports to: Daily –Christine Orr, Sales/Marketing Director & Overall – Darlene Chapman, President

About Discover Downstate Illinois:

Discover Downstate Illinois is a Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, promoting 21-counties for the state of Illinois. Our goal is to promote tourism to our region, and we do that by marketing events, communities, tourist destinations, unique shops, and more. We are funded primarily through hotel/motel tax which means our goal is to get heads in beds. We act as a marketing agency for our tourism partners and create both paid and organic marketing materials such as print pieces, billboards, videos, and so much more.

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Assist in coordinating marketing projects for the Bureau and other communities.

-Develop relationships with all media for advertising placements.

-Ability to communicate both verbally and orally with strong emphasis on presentations, press releases and marketing advertorials.

-Assist in daily Sales/Marketing administrative duties including daily invoicing and other office needs

-Travel the region with the Sales/Marketing Director for meetings with city/village councils, tourism- committees, EDC committees, etc.

-Coordinate advertising campaigns with Sales/Marketing Director and in-house Graphic Designer.

-Prepare Membership Packets.

-Service visiting groups, if applicable.

-Complete inquiries for conventions and motorcoach groups.

-Assist with email marketing and website content.

-Assist in marketing initiatives and campaigns.

-Perform all other duties as assigned by the CEO and Sales/Marketing Director.

Skills & Requirements:

-Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality or Business Administration, preferred but not required.

-Sales experience preferred by not required.

-Strong written and verbal communications skills.

-High level of organization and attention to detail.

-Comfort with Multi-tasking in a deadline driven environment.

-Excellent time management skills.

-Outgoing personality with strong interpersonal and social abilities.

-Comfortable with computers and social media platforms.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,000.00 – $45,000.00 per year
