Through relationships, the Owen County Community Foundation unites people, organizations, and philanthropy to create a thriving community for all. We empower and engage our community to make a difference here at home. We invest in people who are working to address local needs and transform lives, while leading a vision to collaboratively address the root causes of challenges facing our community in diverse and equitable ways. We work with donors to create permanent funds for charitable giving to strengthen Owen County for generations to come. Since our inception in 1994, we have granted more than $11 million in scholarships and grants and have grown our net assets to $15 million.
Position Summary
The Director of Community Engagement & Administration reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and is a full-time position, working an average of 37.5 hours a week. This role works in a collaborative and integrated manner with the OCCF team and throughout the community, assisting OCCF in making significant progress toward meeting its goals of addressing local needs and working to identify and solve root causes. They manage relationships with nonprofits, grantees, and fund advisors, and coordinate community-facing programs. They are responsible for coordinating and implementing the day-to-day operations and administrative functions of the Foundation. They will bring enthusiasm to community initiatives, inspire collaboration, and authentically engage with our local partners. They will ensure efficient and effective internal processes and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Nonprofit Relationships
Develop meaningful relationships with Owen County-serving nonprofits by deeply understanding their work, unique needs, and opportunities to further strengthen the organizations. Be the liaison between OCCF and the nonprofits. Regularly convene and engage with the nonprofits to learn areas of need and ways OCCF can best support their mission.
Grantee Site Visits
Conduct site visits to current and potential grantees to develop relationships and assess program relevance, organizational integrity, and stability. Bring back insight to uplift best practices, identify new solutions, and inform and shape strategy. Monitor grant impact, provide resources and support for grant-seekers, and bring Grants Committee members along when able. Collaborate with Director of Programs and Communication to ensure grantees and potential applicants understand how they can partner with OCCF.
Owen County Nonprofit Alliance
Coordinate and secure educational opportunities for local nonprofits. Promote events, increase attendance, and grow the program to best support the professional development of our nonprofits. Raise awareness and increase the usage of volunteers and nonprofits. Work with Director of Programs and Communication to market the Alliance and volunteer opportunities to targeted audiences, including schools, local businesses, and public library.
Fund Advisor Relations
Invite fund advisors to grantee site visits when applicable. Share site visit findings with the fund advisors who awarded the grants. Support CEO with fund advisor relations and donor development.
Community Presence
Coordinate OCCF presence at community events and meetings with staff and Board of Directors.
Administration
Greet visitors, answer incoming calls, and provide a positive and professional first impression of the foundation. Maintain a well-organized and efficient office environment, including managing office supplies, equipment, and general maintenance. Serve as primary point of contact for office maintenance issues and manage office space planning. Assist with scheduling meetings, coordinating appointments, and managing calendars for staff and board members. Handle incoming and outgoing mail and packages. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Assist in preparing materials for board meetings and committee meetings, ensuring timely distribution of relevant information. Attend meetings as recording secretary, as assigned. Assist in organizing Foundation events, community gatherings, and workshops.
Qualifications & Skills
The Foundation staff is small; therefore, teamwork is an essential part of this position. The ideal candidate works effectively within a team environment, while also independently with an entrepreneurial spirit. The Foundation requires a candidate who is self-motivated to initiate projects, seek out answers, and schedule meetings. Successful candidates have a vibrant and outgoing personality to foster genuine connections with diverse stakeholders.

-Familiarity with philanthropy, nonprofit sector, and development
-Experience in donor stewardship and development work is preferred
-Remains flexible and successful within a changing environment
Ability to work in a hybrid office setting at our office in Spencer: 2-3 days in office and 2-3 days remote. Some evenings and weekends as needed based on events and meetings. Owen County residency is preferred due to the focus of the role.
