Are you passionate about preparing the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs? Steilacoom High School is seeking a dynamic educator to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) team as a Business & Marketing and Financial Math teacher. In this role, you will become part of an exceptional staff dedicated to helping students grow into joyful and confident learners. As a CTE teacher, you’ll inspire students to explore real-world applications of business, finance, marketing, and economics.
As a CTE teacher, you’ll have the opportunity to extend student learning beyond the classroom by supporting and advising a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) such as DECA. CTSOs provide students with leadership, competition, and career exploration experiences that enhance classroom instruction and help build real-world skills.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
CTE teachers provide instruction and support following district approved curriculum, instruction and assessment practices. CTE courses are anchored in STEM literacy and offered based on student interest and alignment with post-secondary goals. Courses may include Business, Marketing, and Financial Math. This description represents the key areas of responsibilities – specific other duties may be assigned.
Student Learning and Growth:
Creates a differentiated learning environment that supports individual and collaborative learning, positive social interactions and active engagement.
Plans for student success by assessing each student’s current knowledge and skill level, sets learning goals and assesses student progress.
Facilitates and shares responsibility of instruction and learning with students by initiating cooperative learning groups, student-led discussions and varying teaching approaches to accommodate diverse learning styles and language proficiency.
Delivers engaging instruction, including project-based learning aligned to the subject using district approved curriculum.
Maintains and provides reasonable and meaningful student grading and evaluation consistent with school and district policy and regularly and effectively communicates student progress to students and families.
Safe and Positive Learning Environment:
Communicates clear expectations, and creates a learning environment in which there is genuine care and respect for students and a belief in their capability.
Maintains a learning environment that is orderly, purposeful and facilitates student learning.
Assists students and families in finding ways to help students develop a positive sense of identity.
Maintains all required safety protocols for CTE courses.
Collaborates with other educators at individual education plan (IEP) meetings, system intervention meetings, and school attendance conferences to support students.
Actively participates in CTE Advisory Pathway Committees and collaborates with district CTE team members to implement, review, and revise CTE program documentation in alignment with state requirements.
Participates in career and technical student organizations (CTSOs) that may feature competitive events, business and community partnerships, and leadership experiences. Collaborates with other teachers to align instruction in content areas such as Math and Science.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
Successful experience or demonstrated commitment toward working with culturally and racially diverse students, families and communities.
Successful completion of either a full teacher program with valid teaching certificate and/or endorsement or successful completion of an approved state program for the Business and Industry Requirements for CTE (see certification options for CTE).
Possess or qualify to attain a valid Washington State CTE certificate.
Experience or skill in delivering instruction in STEM courses.
Demonstrated ability or willingness to actively recruit students and promote the CTE program through outreach efforts, marketing strategies, and collaboration with school staff, families, and community partners.
Knowledge of strength-focused instructional strategies for students that promotes autonomy, cooperation and student voice.
Experience or skill in creating a caring classroom environment that is orderly, purposeful and facilitates student learning.
Experience or skill in planning, preparing and delivering differentiated instruction that facilitates active learning.
Demonstrated skill or experience supporting and contributing to the success of students with disabilities.
Understanding of how injustice or racial inequity may impact students and families experience with school.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
Strong relationship building, networking skills to connect with community businesses and resources.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, work effectively under pressure, and remain flexible.
Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $67,339.00 – $126,919.00 per year
