SALARY

The minimum salary is $50,217.44 annually.

This position is not eligible for overtime (exempt); however, the city has a compensatory time leave program for employees that grants leave time for hours worked in excess of forty hours.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to inform and engage the residents of Lexington by creating content using all forms of communications.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a field related to the job

Four (4) years of related experience

Additional years of related education may substitute for years of experience

Additional years of related experience may substitute for years of education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Researches and creates journalistic content for the Urban County Council¿s communication efforts to include print, radio, television, social media, internal/external websites, special publications, emails and newsletters

Manages the Urban County Council¿s public engagement platform

Reviews drafted materials; edits as required to ensure accuracy and completeness; makes revisions and corrections as needed

Develops and deploys messaging through all available public channels, including social media, to increase public awareness of Urban County Council initiatives, meetings, and events

Drafts official statements, media advisories, and press releases

Coordinates news conferences for the Urban County Council

Attends meetings, news conferences, and field sites as a media representative and liaison for the Urban County Council

Organizes, coordinates, and/or assists with Urban County Council events

Attends ongoing training to improve skills, practices, and systems

Operates and manages audio/visual computer software and photography equipment

Performs related work as assigned by Council Administrator
