PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Communications Manager is responsible for increasing awareness of The Union for Contemporary Arts’ programs and events. This role involves developing graphics and media reels, overseeing advertising efforts, managing mass email communications, designing newsletters and forging visual identities for the sustainability of The Union’s brand.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Content Creation and Copywriting (40%)
1. Creates and edits high-quality content for various platforms, including social media, print materials, e-newsletters, press releases, and other communication channels.
2. Develops and determines the layout and visual design for newsletters, ensuring they are engaging, visually appealing, and align with The Union’s brand identity.
3. Produces and edits videos for promotional, informational, and fundraising purposes, ensuring they align with The Union’s mission and brand.
4. Designs and develops programs for performing arts events, ensuring they are visually appealing and informative.
Graphic Design and Visual Identity (35%)
5. Maintains and enforces brand guidelines to ensure consistency in all communications and marketing materials.
6. Designs fliers to advertise new events, adhering to The Union’s brand guidelines to ensure a cohesive visual identity.
7. Curates and sources relevant images for use in social media posts, newsletters, fliers, and other marketing materials, ensuring high-quality and brand alignment.
8. Creates visually compelling posters and brochures to promote The Union’s programs and events, adhering to brand guidelines.
9. Creates and manages the design and placement of day-of event signage and wayfinding signs to enhance attendee experience and navigation.
Strategic Communication and Marketing (25%)
10. Develops and executes marketing strategies to maximize exposure and attendance for events hosted by The Union.
11. Implements and upholds accessibility guidelines to ensure all communications are accessible to a diverse audience, including those with disabilities.
12. Develops and instills communications guidelines to ensure consistent and effective internal communication practices across the organization.
13. Collaborates with each department to determine the appropriate communications mediums and materials needed to effectively convey their messages and goals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
TheCommunications Manager currently holds no supervisory responsibilities.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
The Executive Director authorizes all expenditures of funds based on proper documentation, contract compliance, and The Union disbursement procedures.
EDUCATION
A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
Certifications in digital marketing, social media management, or public relations are highly valued.
CERTIFICATIONS and LICENSES
Valid Driver’s License and proof of adequate liability insurance coverage for personal vehicle required.
OTHER SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS
Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience in the nonprofit sector and a keen understanding of the multifaceted roles that a small organization’s team members often assume. To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Typical office environment with frequent sitting and standing.
2. Upper body strength will be required to lift, pull, and push up to 20 pounds on occasion.
