The Marketing & Communications Manager reports to the Assistant Vice President of Marketing/Communications and is responsible for managing the planning, development and implementation of all the Organization’s marketing strategies, marketing communications and public relations activities, both external and internal. Aids the Senior Vice President of Marketing/Communications and Assistant Vice President in directing the efforts of the marketing, communications and public relations staff and consultants, coordinating at the strategic and tactical levels with the other functions of the Organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Aid in creation, implementation and measurement of a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program that will enhance the Organization’s public image and position in the marketplace and facilitate internal and external communications; and, all Organization marketing, communications, and public relations activities and materials, including publications, media relations and so forth.
Ensure articulation of the Organization’s desired image and position, assure consistent communication of image and position to all constituencies, both internal and external.
Aid Assistant VP and Senior VP in the editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all Organization publications.
Coordinate media interest in the Organization and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests.
Function as one of the Organization’s representatives with the media and external partners, such as local government, lenders and donors.
Aid the Assistant VP and Senior VP in coordinating social media network content, social media advertising and search engine advertising strategies for National CORE and its associated organizations.
Work with graphic designer, Assistant VP and Senior VP to coordinate the appearance of all Organization print and electronic materials such as letterhead, use of logo, brochures, etc.
Develop, coordinate and oversee programs and resource materials to assist in the marketing, communications and positioning of the Organization.
Monitor trends and provide input on marketing, communications and public relations efforts to aid Assistant VP and Senior VP in programming decisions.
Lead projects as assigned, such as cause-related marketing and special events.
Planning and Budgeting:
Aid Assistant VP and Senior VP in the achievement of marketing/communications/public relations mission, goals and financial objectives. Help manage evaluation systems related to these goals and objectives and report progress to the Assistant VP and Senior VP.
Aid in development of short- and long-term plans and budgets for the marketing/communications/public relations program and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance.
Recommend short- and long-term Organization goals and objectives to the Assistant VP and Senior VP.
Help implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary for the smooth operation of the marketing/communications/public relations function.
Keep informed of developments in the fields of marketing, communications and public relations, not-for-profit management, and governance, and the specific business of the Organization and use this information to help the Organization operate with initiative and innovation.
Organizational Strategy:
Work with Marketing team, senior leadership, other staff and volunteers to develop and maintain a strategic perspective – based on marketplace and constituent needs and satisfaction – in organizational direction, program and services and decision-making; and ensure the overall health and vitality of the Organization.
Help make sure that the Organization’s philosophy, mission and vision are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization.
Aid in development and coordination of means to seek regular input from the Organization’s key constituencies regarding the quality of programs and services and the Organization’s relevance.
Managing:
Maintain a climate that attracts, retains and motivates top-quality staff, both paid and volunteer.
Aid in training, supervising, supporting, developing and guiding qualified staff, both paid and volunteer.
Ensure effective management within the marketing, communications, and public relations function, with provision for succession.
Design, support and oversee cross-functional teams throughout the Organization.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities, including social media and visual storytelling.
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills.
Experience managing budgets and supervising personnel.
Demonstrated successful experience writing media releases, making presentations and coordinating with media. Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
Computer literacy in word processing, database management and page layout.
Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects at a time. Out-of-town, overnight travel may be required.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Minimum of three years’ experience in marketing, communications or public relations with demonstrated success, preferably in the not-for-profit or association sector.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing or public relations preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Operate computer and office equipment.
Work is primarily sedentary in nature.
