What We Want
The Student Development Specialist III will serve as an active member in the Campus Engagement & Traditions unit within the Department of Student Activities. Responsibilities will include advising, planning, risk management and assessment for large representation-based programming within the Student Government Association and the Freshman Leadership Advisory Council. Specific advising responsibilities include SGA Student Senate, SGA Development Commission, Legislative Relations Commission, and other SGA entities. Oversees the administration, recruitment, and large-scale curriculum of Freshman Leadership Organizations on campus.
Outside of student advising and programming, this position will have the opportunity to work with areas and projects such as: facilities management, assessment, student organization marketing, advisor development, traditions enrichment, leadership training, former student relations, curriculum development, etc.
What You Need To Know
General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students.
Ability to work nights and periodic weekends as needed including some overnight travel for conferences and retreats.
Salary: $59,512/year
Professional Development: May be eligible for up to $3,200/year of departmental funding for professional development opportunities and conference attendance.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Three years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area with a bachelor’s degree
Two years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area with a master’s degree
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education or related field
More than two years post-graduate experience in higher education, student affairs, or specific area(s) described in this position description
Experience in student group advising, marketing, and event creation & execution
Significant student group advising, leadership training, and experience in the specific area(s) described in this position description
Responsibilities
Program Administration and Oversight – Organization Development
Manages program oversight and student development initiatives related to advising responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to, developing effective policies and processes related to risk management for student organizations, financial oversight including budgeting, marketing and communication for various constituent groups, vendor and donor relationships, student travel, securing technological resources, inventory management, and document review including pre-event planning education, recruitment and retention, and other administrative tasks as required by the group or department.
Student Government Advising – SGA
Serves as primary advisor of an SGA Commission and their associated programs and initiatives. Dually, may serve as an advisor to governing bodies within freshman class programming and/or the Student Government Association. Advising and administration of a student group may include, but is not limited to, leadership development, training and development for students and advisors, evaluation of programs, adherence to policies and procedures including judicial processes, risk management activities, programming and logistics of events, financial oversight of student organization accounts, and other tasks as required by the group or department.
Campus and Traditions-Based Initiatives
Support initiatives related to campus and traditions-based programming with emphasis on utilizing the data from the initiatives-providing an environment for all students that supports department, division, and university efforts.
Facilities Support
Serves as the primary point of contact for facilities projects for the SGA Suite.
Projects include but are not limited to: technology updates, furniture improvements, work order maintenance, office supply orders, working with external vendors to create graphic works, order artwork, and maintain a facilities budget.
Administration of Functional Area
Fulfill assigned administrative responsibilities for the Campus Engagement and Tradition (CET) area including, but not limited to, program assessment, facilitation of SGA advisor/student leader trainings, serving as support staff for CET programs, and stakeholder outreach.
Promotes and supports risk management and representative legislative efforts of Texas A&M SGA and students.
Supervision
May be responsible for direct supervision of a graduate assistant and supervision of student workers.
