The assistant director of alumni affairs is responsible for student and young alumni engagement, as part of Muhlenberg’s high-performing, donor-centered advancement team. This individual is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships and programs to promote alumni engagement, participation and philanthropy. The ultimate goal of this work is to build alumni connections and foster/inspire deeper engagement and philanthropic support.

Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities:

Alumni Engagement

Facilitate the Young Alumni Ambassadors group, who engage other alumni through volunteerism, event participation, and outreach efforts. In partnership with these volunteers, create a focused strategy designed to significantly expand and enhance alumni engagement and philanthropy.

Participate in Alumni Weekend planning, focusing on recent reunion class years. Responsibilities include partnering with The Muhlenberg Fund staff to recruit, manage, and guide class reunion volunteers in setting and achieving attendance and fundraising goals, as well as engaging classmates

Student Programming and Advising

Serve as advisor for the Cardinal Key Society, a cohesive program for student involvement in the greater College community. Responsible for recruiting, training and scheduling CKS members to assist at signature events including, but not limited to, orientation, alumni weekend, candlelight carols, and commencement.
Provide primary leadership and strategic planning for student programming events (e.g. orientation candle lighting and scarving during, student THAW, senior fair and senior champagne brunch.

Alumni Affairs Activity & Operations

Serve as staff liaison for an Alumni Board (AB) sub-committee, attending quarterly subcommittee and general AB meetings.
Support Alumni Weekend programming with anticipated leadership of key event planning and execution.
Staff alumni events and attend Represent Muhlenberg at events on and off campus.
Participate in and provide support for department-wide fundraising efforts including Mulementum, phone-a-thon, class reunion fundraising, etc.
Work with Alumni Affairs and Office of Communications & Marketing teams to develop communication strategies (e.g. newsletters, email campaigns, social media posts) aimed at increasing alumni engagement.
May perform other duties as assigned.

While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences and characteristics:

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. Muhlenberg alum preferred (but not required).
Minimum one year related experience in public relations, event planning, marketing or fundraising.
Understanding of and commitment to Muhlenberg and its student and alumni body.
Strong creativity, organizational, writing and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work as a team player; capable of working independently and proactively while initiating and maintaining frequent communication with the Executive Director is essential.
Ability to professionally represent the college in support of Advancement goals and maintain the highest degree of confidentiality.
In partnership with Muhlenberg College’s Office of Communications & Marketing, ability to work collaboratively to promote positive alumni social media experience (familiarity with LinkedIn, Instagram, X/Twitter, etc., new/emerging technologies and online communication trends desired).
Proficiency with Google Workspace, MS Office, and general database software.
Attend and contribute to major College functions/events, including but not limited to Alumni Weekend, Cardinal Key Society meetings, THAW and Alumni Board meetings.
