Job Summary
Provide support and assistance to the Marketing & Communications Coordinator. In addition, this position will assist with marketing and communications tasks including, but not limited to, writing and editing, photo and video production and editing, web and social media analytics, social media content, graphic design, media, digital asset management, event coordination, and emergency communication support.
Reporting Relationship
Reports to the Marketing & Communications Coordinator
Supervisory Responsibilities
None; however, exercises autonomy and sound judgement over tasks as assigned
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Communications: Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communication strategies to promote city programs, events, services, and initiatives.
Content Creation: Write and edit press releases, newsletters, social media posts, website content, and other communication materials to effectively engage residents and stakeholders.
Social Media Management: Manage the city’s social media platforms by creating engaging content, responding to community inquiries, and ensuring consistent messaging across all digital channels.
Photo and Video Production: Capture photos and videos at city events and activities using both professional cameras and smartphones. Edit and format media for use across communication channels.
Event Planning: Assist in coordinating logistics for city events, ensuring all promotional materials, resources, and schedules are in place for successful execution.
General Administrative and Communications Tasks: Provide general administrative support and perform other communications-related tasks as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with an ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences. Candidate possessing excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a working knowledge of Associated Press Style preferred.
Strong understanding of social media platforms, web design, digital marketing, and content creation tools.
Knowledge of graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop) preferred.
Ability to handle high-pressure situations and work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Public Administration, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or a related field
Two (2) years of experience in social media management, communications, journalism or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Tools & Equipment Used
Personal computers, including word processors, social media platforms, graphic design software, cameras, tripods, phone, copy machine, fax machine, etc.
