The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is a key individual contributor to the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University and is responsible for assisting with the content and messaging that supports the School’s vision and priorities and ensuring that all written and visual communications effectively advance Blair’s mission, values, and strategic direction. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, this position is responsible for providing support of social media, marketing, and capturing and documenting events, students, faculty and alumni through video, bringing the School to life for the promotion of our collegiate, Academy, faculty research, and co-curricular events. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator actively participates in identifying, researching, creating, and editing story ideas as part of the Blair School Marketing and Communications team, and maintains confidentiality and demonstrates outstanding judgment and discretion. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, coordination, organization, and time management.

Situated on Vanderbilt Campus in the heart of Nashville, TN, the Blair School of Music is a vibrant and fast-paced school at Vanderbilt University, focused on the personal and professional education of highly talented young musicians who demonstrate an exceptional capacity and motivation to shape our increasingly diverse and complex global century—through music, with music, and in music. The school has approximately 115 full and part-time faculty members and industry professionals who teach approximately 260 music majors, 800 Blair Academy students (comprised of pre-college and adult students) and 2,000 non-music Vanderbilt majors. https://blair.vanderbilt.edu/ .

Key Functions and Expected Performance:
Marketing and Communications
Supports the development and execution of Blair’s communication plans across various channels, including social media, email, website, press releases, etc.
Manages website, content, and designs for Blair School events, ensuring up-to-date information for the public and fostering community engagement.
Collaborates with the Director of Marketing and Communications and other relevant departments to produce web and social media content that is engaging, accurate, and on brand.
Assists with development and posting of social media content across multiple channels, quickly writing/editing content, creating graphics, applying tags/links, etc.
Assists with social ads and creating social ad schedules to drive traffic to events and Blair Academy offerings.
Gathers and reports social media analytics.
Coordinates the posting of Blair School content and events for digital boards daily including videos and QR codes for each event.
Coordinates production of marketing collateral in support of Blair events across various platforms
Creation and distribution of marketing materials, point of purchase, banners, etc.
Ensures all promotional materials comply with Vanderbilt University’s and Blair School’s standards and strategies.
Assists with the promotion of Blair live performance events through various digital channels and on-campus / community print placements.
Writes concise event listings and social media posts, along with in-depth professional articles that capture the inspiration behind events.
Contributes articles to various newsletters to promote the Blair School and various events.
Assists Blair faculty as needed to secure permission for live performances to be streamed online. This includes direct outreach to music publishers to request streaming licenses.
Maintains robust understanding of Vanderbilt licensing policies related to photo, video, and performances, tracks and coordinates with faculty and services team on proper copyright licensing.
Independently manages multiple projects with varying deadlines, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content.
Multimedia Communications
Utilizes visual storytelling skills to support the mission and vision of the Blair School of Music.
Envisions, creates, produces, and edits video and motion graphics projects.
Photographs key moments and highlights for awards, guest artists, and events.
Captures videos for quick short stories, i.e., socials with students, interviews with faculty / students about upcoming shows, etc.
Delivers multimedia projects on time to meet deadlines.
Edits videos and posts content to YouTube, with faculty approval, on a weekly basis, while ensuring all necessary licensing approvals are in place.
Contributes ideas and skills towards bringing the student experience to life.
Pitches ideas to VU media team about upcoming events and interest stories.
Generates opportunities that support the Blair School’s desire for marketing materials to be more visual, relevant, and engaging.
Manages the digital content archive.
Maintains inventory of video supplies and equipment; evaluates potential new equipment.
Actively participates in team creative brainstorming.
Keeps abreast of new trends and creative ways to tell stories using a variety of media.
Supervisory Relationships
This position does not have supervisory responsibility. This position reports administratively and functionally to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
Education and Certifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.
At least two years of experience in writing and managing communications in a business environment is necessary.
Experience and Skills:
Attention to detail, high level of accuracy, and strong organizational skills is necessary.
Strong writing, editing, and project management skills is necessary.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously is necessary.
Ability to balance the diverse needs of the job and its various constituents (faculty, staff, students, event patrons, and prospective students / families) and to work with flexibility, and at times under pressure, on several tasks simultaneously and to meet various concurrent deadlines is necessary.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is necessary.
Professional and clear communication skills are necessary.
Some graphic design and basic video editing experience is preferred.
Some proficiency with WordPress is preferred.
