The Communications Manager will report to the Senior Manager, Marketing and is a full-time, temp-to-hire role. This position is responsible for developing and delivering impactful communications that amplify MRC’s voice, promote its mission, and engage key audiences. This role focuses on storytelling, thought leadership, and messaging to support MRC’s programs, events, advocacy, and membership initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a versatile communicator and relationship builder who can craft compelling narratives across multiple platforms, manage public relations efforts, and oversee an external communications calendar. Experience in the eCommerce payments and/or fraud prevention industry is strongly preferred, as the role requires an understanding of the challenges, trends, and language relevant to MRC’s audience.
Attention to detail and the ability to do quality assurance on marketing materials are key to this role.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications & Messaging Development:
Collaborate with the team to develop and deliver MRC’s communications strategy, ensuring messaging aligns with organizational goals and enhances brand visibility.
Create and maintain a marketing communications calendar as driven by the communication strategy and plans for each product line.
Write and edit clear, compelling copy for press releases, media kits, speeches, executive announcements, and presentations.
Translate complex industry topics (payments, fraud prevention, cybersecurity) into accessible and engaging content for diverse audiences.
Help shape MRC’s voice to resonate with target audiences, including members, sponsors, and the broader payments and fraud prevention community.
Media Relations & PR Management:
Build and maintain relationships with media partners and influencers to secure coverage and interviews.
Develop and distribute press releases, company announcements, and news updates to generate positive publicity.
Monitor media coverage and identify PR opportunities to further MRC’s mission and goals.
Content Oversight:
Provide input to teams responsible for content creation (e.g., marketing specialists and designers), ensuring alignment with brand standards and adhering to the communications calendar deadlines.
Review and approve copy for external communications, including email marketing, blogs, and social media posts, as needed
Campaign Support:
Support the execution of communication plans to promote MRC events, advocacy, and programs.
Craft post-campaign recaps, impact reports, and media highlights to showcase success.
Reporting and Analytics:
Track and analyze media impressions, engagement metrics, and campaign performance to measure communication impact.
Generate and present performance reports with recommendations for improving reach and engagement.
Leverage industry research to identify trends and shape future communications strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
Proven experience (4–6 years) in marketing communications, PR, media relations, or corporate communications.
Industry experience in payments, fraud prevention, or cybersecurity preferred, with the ability to translate technical or complex topics into clear and accessible messaging.
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats.
Experience with executive communications, media outreach, and PR campaign development.
Strong ability to tailor messaging to different audiences, including sponsors, members, and the media.
Proficiency in content and project management tools (e.g., ClickUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
Familiarity with email marketing tools and CRM platforms (HubSpot, Salesforce preferred).
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret campaign data and media performance.
Experience in SEO, social media strategy, and digital engagement metrics preferred.
Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and collaborate across teams.
Work Location: Remote(Preference given to GA, NC, OK, TX, WA)
