Position Overview:
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Communications and Engagement is responsible for building and maintaining the Lemnis brand and reputation as well as expanding its impact through communications. The role ensures that Lemnis has a consistent cadence of content that is relevant, persuasive, and engages the organization’s key leaders to use their voices to advance the Lemnis mission through multiple channels. The Director of Communications and Engagement is an experienced leader and collaborative team member, partnering with the Lemnis Collective and Lemnis Alliance to amplify impact of these strategies, managing resources and ensuring a wide range of voices are featured and heard.
Our Lemnis Collective strategy is designed to provide the necessary patient capital and resources through strategic acquisition to help organizations scale their impact during a critical point of inflection. The Lemnis Alliance strategy supports strong intermediaries focused on early-stage organizations to succeed. This leadership role will ensure we are engaging with external advisors and experts to continue to inform our work and push our thinking.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in strategic communications, public relations, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications Strategy
Develop and implement a communications strategy that supports and amplifies the organization’s social impact plan.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with Lemnis’s goals and values that effectively integrates work across Lemnis strategy areas, how the team could optimize and work together, and tends to specific strategy needs as needed.
Create goals, strategies, and measures of success for the communications function for an overarching unified voice of Lemnis that ties together the strategy work and can be understood by all its priority audiences, such as social entrepreneurs, neuroscientists, educators, and policymakers.
Continue to nurture the Lemnis brand and awareness to stakeholders; create campaigns for sharing Lemnis’s goals and investments in a simple, relatable, yet compelling way that educates and inspires action.
Provide communications support to the CEO/Board of Directors (e.g. presentations, messaging) in her/their meetings and engagements with other funding institutions, government agencies, and other key influencers and partners.
Develop and lead a “thought leadership” strategy for the organization, working with the CEO, chief of staff, program staff, grantees, partners, and other funders on key content related to expanding the horizons of learning.
Engagement and Advocacy
Develop and execute a strategy with outcomes to help us build a strong coalition and community of educators, social entrepreneurs, neuroscientists, policymakers, and the public.
Activate impactful communications plans for Lemnis Collective and Alliance strategies.
Develop and implement a policy and advocacy plan that supports policies and funding for expanding learning for all.
Management
Help identify skills and resources required to achieve communications goals, leveraging external consultants and managing their work (e.g. media relations, writing/content, creative/design, social and digital, and public affairs).
Provide communications counsel to CEO, senior leaders, and Board of Directors; lead cross-functional and internal communications for the organization.
Position CEO as leader of Lemnis to external audiences, through meeting engagement, press, thought leadership, conference appearances, and other activities.
Media Relations
Support CEO in all media communications.
Build relationships with media, thought leaders, policymakers, partners, and other key audiences and service as an effective ambassador on behalf of Lemnis.
Serve as a key lead on crisis communications, partnering with a cross functional team and providing advice, support, and timely and effective responses.
Monitor and analyze media coverage and public sentiment, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
Content and Channel Management
Ensure content and positions reflects lessons learned and research from learners, the field, and entrepreneurs.
Direct content creation and messaging for the organization. Manage important tools/channels of communications, including social media, visual communications (e.g., design, documents, video), publications, community relations, and digital marketing.
Direct Lemnis’ networking and community-building conferences, press events, and special activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or a related field, with a focus on external relations.
Accomplished, compelling storyteller and communicator proven to develop and execute successful communication strategies and speak about social issues and sectors that inspire action.
Proven leader who will effectively steward the communications assets in a small but dynamic and growing organization.
Brings a strategic outlook to designing and implementing a communications strategy that supports broad, cross-cutting work and knits together the needs of multiple program/strategy areas.
Enjoying hands-on involvement in the day-to-day execution of the work, both at a high level and within the details. Must be flexible, adaptable, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment.
Strong media relations skills and experience serving as an organizational spokesperson.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
Experience in managing crisis communications and navigating complex issues.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Salary: $130,000-$150,000
