Marketing & Communications Specialist (Staff Associate)
This is a full time, benefited position.
BARGAINING UNIT/NON-UNIT): Non Unit
ANTICIPATED START DATE: April 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter
SALARY RANGE: $60,000 – $65,000, commensurate with education and experience.
OPTION TO TELEWORK: This position is eligible for remote work, per the Commonwealth’s Telework Policy
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, Marketing, and Public Relations, the Marketing & Communications Specialist will be an integral member of a passionate and talented marcom team that is building GCC’s brand and improving messaging across all communications venues, including paid ads, social media, email, website, printed materials and events. Primary responsibilities include managing GCC’s main social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube), managing email and text communications sent through GCC’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, Slate, and supporting event coordination. This position may have access to sensitive or confidential information prior to it being communicated to stakeholders or the public.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Create and manage content for the main GCC social media accounts, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.
Remain current on and apply best practices for using social media platforms to attract and retain target audiences.
Create and manage a calendar of e-communications through the college’s CRM, Slate.
Manage recruitment and retention-related emails and texts using the college’s CRM, Slate.
Collaborate and communicate with relevant departments for marketing and communications related projects.
Write and manage marketing and communications content that may include confidential information, while ensuring full compliance with privacy regulations, such as FERPA.
Develop and manage confidential information relevant to alumni and development engagement communications with discretion and adherence to college policies.
Develop and draft press releases that effectively communicate institutional news and updates, ensuring that sensitive or proprietary information is appropriately safeguarded.
Manage event activities through promotion, attendance, and other support as needed.
Create content for flyer templates that will be used to promote events and activities.
Conduct regular audits of the GCC website and update content as needed.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE*:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Advertising, Business Administration, Education Administration, Writing, or other field related to area of assignment
Two (2) years’ experience in marketing or communications or related field (includes educational and internship experience)
Two (2) years’ experience with managing social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube.
Two (2) years experience with using design software such as Adobe Creative Suite applications or Canva.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with Customer Relationship Management systems, preferably Slate.
Experience with email and text communications and marketing.
Experience with college communications, including student life cycles and enrollment phases
