Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
Position Overview:
The Press Officer will be responsible for the implementation of media relations strategies to inform and influence key audiences on health, advocacy, and litigation efforts around Planned Parenthood’s work. This position reports to the Director of Courts and Litigation Communications in the Communications and Culture division of PPFA.
Responsibilities:
Work with Planned Parenthood affiliate staff and relevant departments to develop and implement strategic communications plans.
Draft press releases, statements, op-ed pieces, talking points, and other materials that support media relations efforts.
Respond to inquiries from reporters and facilitate press stories and interviews.
Act as a media relations point person, handling day-to-day media relations activities.
Collaborate with multiple departments to achieve desired goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
2-3 years of media experience with political, advocacy, and/or nonprofit organizations.
High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
An understanding of the reproductive rights and health landscape.
Must be motivated and a self-starter with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
Strong commitment to the mission of Planned Parenthood.
Travel: 0-15% domestic
Compensation: $75,000 – $78,000 a year, including a generous benefits package.
