Position Summary
The American Battlefield Trust, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to historic land preservation and history education, seeks a proactive Marketing and Communications professional to manage its communications team and build awareness of the Trust and its mission. Using earned, owned and paid media, strategic partnerships, advantageous placements and other innovative outreach avenues, you will introduce potential advocates and funders to our cause: saving hallowed ground and helping more Americans appreciate its early history. With the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War commencing this year, you will have a unique opportunity to promote history and preservation when interest in historic sites is expected to be at record levels.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $80,000 annually

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Advance messaging that defines the Trust brand and build relationships that expand its reach and impact, burnishing its reputation as an industry thought-leader.
Manage a 4-person communications team, who assist with public relations, marketing, advocacy, and partner outreach.
Generate, evaluate and pursue brand-building opportunities, including earned and paid media, content marketing, sponsorships, collaborations and partnerships that introduce new audiences to the Trust’s work.
Strengthen the pipeline that converts consumers of Trust history content into supporters of land acquisition initiatives and advocates for Trust priorities and programs.
Encourage visitation to battlefields and historic sites as part of the 250th anniversary observances of the American Revolution and Declaration of Independence.
Ensure appropriate and consistent use of Trust brand and voice in collateral, as well as accuracy of programmatic information and metrics.
Utilize traditional and digital media to bring attention to threats to battlefield parks and historic sites.
Liaise with battlefields, historic sites and museums to highlight the “power of place” and encourage visitation to meaningfully marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Help shape issues of Hallowed Ground, our award-winning membership magazine, into a strategic communications vehicle that advances organizational goals.
Quantify efficacy of outreach efforts and refine techniques to maximize impact.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of experience in communications management, marketing, advertising or other relevant creative field.
Experience in managing a team of talented communicators, providing timely feedback and mentorship.
Keen interest in American history and a flair for good storytelling.
Exceptional writing abilities, including mastery of marrying tone and medium, coupled with proficiency in editing for grammar, clarity and succinctness.
Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks, balance multiple priorities and meet firm deadlines.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, coupled with a results-oriented and problem-solving mindset
Knowledge of promotional techniques that go beyond paid advertising and social media, including brand strategy, affiliate and co-marketing programs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required; experience with Drupal CMS and digital asset management systems highly valued
