Job Title: PS-8 Assistant Principal

The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in developing and implementing the faith-based educational program of the school. They help lead, create, and promote a strong faith community in which students, families, and staff grow in their personal faith and knowledge of Catholic teaching.

The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting with developing, implementing, and reviewing the total school program across all grade levels. This includes ensuring academic excellence, supervising and evaluating staff, budgeting, accreditation procedures, development and implementation of the school improvement plan, professional development for staff, enrollment management and marketing efforts.

Excellent communication skills along with a deep understanding of educational systems and the ability to work with parents, stakeholder groups, and the wider parish communities are essential.

Job Description – PS-8 Assistant Principal

Faith Standard: An Assistant Principal is an educational leader who promotes the success of all teachers and students by demonstrating an active faith life both professionally as well as personally.

Assists in providing leadership for a strong and viable faith community
Participates in school liturgies
Plans and leads staff prayer opportunities at meetings or retreats as assigned

Standard 1: Vision An Assistant Principal is an educational leader who promotes the success of all teachers and students by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared by the school community.

Plans and facilitates professional development opportunities with the principal for the teachers
Serves and assists on committees (SIAC, Safety, etc.)
Assists in preparation of all state reports as assigned
Plans with the principal a school vision and goals based on assessment data of all student learners.

Standard 2: Cultural and Instructional Leader An Assistant Principal is an educational leader who promotes the success of all teachers and students by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student’s learning and staff professional development.

Understands the common core standards, benchmarks, and grade-level expectations
Participates, plans, facilitates professional development activities with the principal
Serves on Student Assistance Team (SAT)
Conducts teacher observations and evaluations with the principal
Understands the PLC structure and leads as a facilitator with staff

Standard 3: Management An Assistant Principal is an educational leader who promotes the success of all teachers and students by ensuring management of the organization, operations, finances, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.

Assists in ordering, organizing, and distribution of textbooks and supplies
Works with textbook representatives for ordering and receiving of materials
Acts as a good steward of parish resources
Available to assist teachers in problem solving
Assist and support in the hiring process
Develops duties and schedules as assigned
Serves in car line duty, lunch duty, and others as assigned by the principal

Standard 4: Collaboration An Assistant Principal is an educational leader who promotes the success of all teachers and students by collaborating with families and community members, responding to the diverse community interests and needs, mobilizing community resources.

Attends parish staff meetings and retreats as assigned
Attends Board of Education meetings when assigned
Works with AEA personnel
Attends diocesan administrator meetings as assigned

Standard 5: Ethics An Assistant Principal is an educational leader who promotes the success of all teachers and students by acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.

Considers big picture when planning
Completes duties and assigned tasks in a timely manner and by due date

Standard 6: Advocacy An Assistant Principal is an educational leader who promotes the success of all teachers and students by understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.

Understands Catholic school system and how the law relates to that system
Understands the process of working with teachers and staff
Understands educational systems and how they may be improved through a process

A successful candidate must be a practicing Catholic with knowledge of Catholic teaching and must hold a valid Iowa Administrator license with Evaluator Approval.

Qualifications:

Successful candidate must be a practicing Catholic with knowledge of Catholic teaching and doctrines

Previous administrative experience preferred

State of Iowa Administrator license with Evaluator Approval required, additional endorsement areas preferred

Knowledge of principles, theory, and practices in educational programs

Experience with federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations

Community leadership experience preferred

Practice in teacher observation, evaluation, supervision strongly preferred

Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience with preference given to Catholic school experience
