We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic communications professional to lead the development and implementation ofcommunicationstrategies for our Employee and Legal Services (ELS) division.
The Senior Communications Advisor will lead the day-to-day operation of the Employee and Legal Services communications unit, including the development and implementation ofcommunicationstrategies and materials. This role will also involve collaborating with colleagues across the organization to support corporate internal communications functions and corporate culture initiatives. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of communications principles and best practices, as well as experience in leading and mentoring a team.
What
will you do?
Develop, coordinate, and deliver high-quality communications products and services for the ELS division
Provide guidance to staff and clients on communications strategies, messaging, and tactics
Review and edit all communications materials to ensure they align with corporate cultural approaches, plain language principles, and divisional priorities
Identify and resolve conflicts and challenges within the team and with clients
Build and maintain relationships with divisional staff to support organizational awareness, planning, and resource allocation
Lead and supervise the ELS communications unit, including setting performance expectations, providing coaching and mentoring, and managing staff schedules
Manage and report on attendance, overtime, and performance
Ensure team compliance with City and departmental training requirements, cultural programs, and change initiatives
Qualifications
University degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English, broadcasting, or a related field
Minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in a communications or public relations position, as well as at least one year of experience in a related supervisory capacity
OR
A diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, English, broadcasting, or a related field
Minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in a communications or public relations position, as well as at least two years’ of experience in a related supervisory capacity
Assets
Experience working in the public sector and/or a large, complex organization
Experience with internal communications and employee engagement
Skills required for success:
Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and motivate a team
Excellent written and verbalcommunication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and persuasively
Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintainpositive workingrelationships
Ability to identify and resolve conflicts and challenges effectively
Ability to develop and implementeffective communicationstrategies that align with organizational goals
Excellent writing and editing skills, with a strong understanding of plain language principles
