Job Overview:

ZTE Omni Trucking is seeking a highly skilled Vice President of Carrier Operations to oversee and manage the operational activities of our carrier network. This key leadership position will be responsible for driving efficiency, ensuring compliance, managing relationships with carriers, and optimizing the overall supply chain performance. The Vice President of Carrier Operations will lead a team responsible for managing the company’s carrier fleet, developing operational strategies, and enhancing customer satisfaction through effective transportation management.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carrier management, logistics operations, and transportation within the trucking or logistics industry. This role is essential for maintaining the seamless execution of ZTE Omni Trucking’s operational goals and will be instrumental in ensuring that our service levels and operational performance exceed industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Carrier Operations Strategy: Develop and execute operational strategies to optimize the performance of our carrier network. Implement best practices in carrier management to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods while maintaining high service levels.
Carrier Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key carriers and logistics partners. Negotiate contracts, resolve disputes, and ensure mutually beneficial agreements. Work with carriers to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and meet customer demands.
Fleet Management: Oversee the management and performance of ZTE Omni Trucking’s fleet, including driver management, maintenance, and scheduling. Ensure that the fleet operates at maximum capacity with minimal downtime while adhering to safety and compliance standards.
Operational Efficiency: Drive improvements in carrier operations to optimize routing, scheduling, and dispatching. Implement technologies and systems to streamline operations, reduce fuel costs, and improve driver and carrier performance.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure all carrier operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Implement and maintain safety protocols and monitor carrier performance to ensure compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
Cost Management: Develop strategies to reduce operating costs through efficient carrier utilization, negotiation, and route optimization. Monitor budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings while maintaining high service levels.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for carrier operations, including on-time performance, carrier compliance, and cost-efficiency. Provide regular reports to the executive team on the status of carrier operations and recommend improvements.
Cross-Department Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments such as Sales, Customer Service, and Logistics to ensure seamless execution of transportation operations. Provide input into customer requirements and help design operational solutions to meet service expectations.
Technology Integration: Leverage advanced technologies (e.g., telematics, fleet management software, route optimization tools) to monitor, track, and improve carrier performance. Explore new technologies to enhance operational efficiency and visibility.
Training and Development: Lead the training and development efforts for the carrier operations team, ensuring that staff is well-equipped to meet the operational demands and industry standards. Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Crisis Management: Manage unexpected disruptions in the carrier network, such as delays, accidents, or adverse weather conditions. Implement contingency plans to minimize impact on customer delivery schedules.

Qualifications:

Experience: Proven experience in carrier operations, fleet management, or logistics management within the trucking or transportation industry. At least 10 years of experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management or executive role.
Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and manage a diverse team of carrier managers, dispatchers, and drivers. Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing teams.
Negotiation Skills: Strong ability to negotiate contracts with carriers and suppliers to ensure favorable terms, pricing, and service delivery. Skilled at resolving disputes and ensuring effective partnerships.
Industry Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of transportation regulations, logistics best practices, and supply chain management. Familiarity with the latest technologies and trends in the transportation and logistics industry.
Financial Acumen: Strong budget management skills, with the ability to track and manage costs associated with carrier operations while maintaining efficiency and profitability.
Technology Proficiency: Proficient in using fleet management systems, transportation management software, and other logistics tools. Familiar with GPS tracking, telematics, route optimization, and other relevant technologies.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate expectations, policies, and operational strategies to internal teams, carriers, and partners.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. An advanced degree (MBA) or relevant certifications is preferred.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

Experience in a senior leadership role overseeing a national or regional carrier fleet.
Strong background in freight brokerage and contract negotiation.
Experience working in a high-growth or rapidly changing environment, with a focus on scaling operations.
